There are places in your heart you’ve learned to guard.
Places shaped by hurt, disappointment, or fear. Places where something in you decided, It’s safer if I keep this closed. So you moved forward. You learned how to cope.
You kept going, but you also kept those places protected.
Sometimes that protection shows up through anger, defensiveness, sarcasm, hiding, or constantly playing the victim. Sometimes it looks like only letting people see the parts of you you want them to see — carefully presenting yourself in the way you want to be perceived instead of living with true transparency. Self-protection is not only something we do with God, but also with other people.
You kept going, but you also kept those places protected — from other people, and even from God.
Not because you don’t love Him — but because those places feel vulnerable. Uncertain. Maybe even overwhelming. And somewhere deep down, there’s a question: Is it safe to let Him see this?
So you let Him into parts of your life… but not all of it.
Yet the places you protect are often the places that need Him most.
Scripture says, “Search me, God, and know my heart” (Psalm 139:23). God is not afraid of what’s hidden within you. He already sees every wound, every fear, every guarded place—and He comes with gentleness, not condemnation.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock” (Revelation 3:20).
He is patient. Gentle. Willing to enter—but only where He is welcomed.
Letting God into these places is not about having everything figured out. It’s not about reopening wounds on your own. It’s simply about willingness.
It can start with something as small as:
God, I’ve been holding this part of my heart closed… but I want to let You in.
That’s enough.
Because you were never meant to carry those places alone.
What you’ve been protecting, He wants to heal—not with pressure, but with presence. Not with shame, but with love.
You don’t have to open everything at once. You don’t have to rush.
Just begin.
The places you’ve been guarding are not too much for Him.
And when you let Him in, you won’t find judgment.
You’ll find healing.
