We replay the past.
We worry about the future.
We make plans, imagine different outcomes, and try to prepare ourselves for things that haven’t even happened yet.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we miss the moment we’re actually living in.
Today.
Right here.
With Jesus.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:34:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Jesus isn’t telling us not to plan or think about the future. He’s reminding us that we were never meant to carry tomorrow today.
There is grace for today.
There will be grace for tomorrow when tomorrow gets here.
We Don’t Have to Figure Everything Out Today
Sometimes we want to know exactly what’s coming next.
What will my life look like a year from now?
Where will I live?
What will my job be?
Will this relationship work out?
Will the thing I’ve been praying for actually happen?
But Jesus doesn’t usually give us the whole map.
He gives us the next step.
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
A lamp doesn’t light up the entire road.
It gives you enough light to see where to put your foot next.
Maybe that’s all you need right now.
Not the whole plan.
Just the next step.
Jesus Is Here, Too
Sometimes we can become so focused on getting to the next season that we forget that Jesus is already present in this one.
We think, I’ll be happier when I get there.
I’ll have peace when this gets figured out.
I’ll feel settled when this season is over.
But what if Jesus wants to meet us right here?
Not just in the future version of our lives.
Not just when everything is figured out.
Here.
In the ordinary Tuesday.
In the morning coffee.
In the long drive.
In the workday.
In the unanswered prayer.
In the transition.
In the waiting.
In the moments when nothing particularly exciting is happening.
Jesus is not only found in the big moments.
He’s here in the small ones, too.
